It seriously puzzles me. OK, he's no doubt a competent administrator. But who cares how competent he is if he's sold his soul?
Romney and McCain campaigned in Michigan on the issue of the economy and the loss of jobs. McCain was honest, Romney gave a lot of smarmy feel-good talk that didn't mean anything, and Romney won. Did people seriously believe that Romney could deliver his promise to bring back lost jobs? Why would they believe a thing like that?
Romney has consistently taken the more immoral of two positions whenever given half the chance. His refusal to condemn waterboarding should disqualify him in the minds of anyone with any sense of decency.
McCain is an honest and honorable politician who would make an excellent president. For that very reason, he's almost sure to lose.
This campaign has almost made me think there might be some hope for American politics. Things aren't as sewn up as usual and there arethree serious candidates (McCain, Huckabee, and Obama) who seem to be sincere idealists. If any of those three gets nominated for their respective parties, I'll be surprised and delighted. I think Obama probably has the best chance of the three--too bad he's so wrong on abortion.
And yes, I'm trying to get back into blogging after another of my long hiatus. (And yes, "hiatus" is the Latin plural for "hiatus.")

Hi, Edwin. I'm glad this morning was one where I checked your blog. Every so often I come by here, just in case. Welcome back. Fatherhood is more adventurous than blogging anyway!
Zerubbabel/Dave has given several reasons why he holds Mitt in esteem based on positions and actions taken in MA. I'm at a loss presently because Brownback, iirc, was more in line with who I'd chose/vote for.
Meanwhile, a couple of things. One: Laura's classes include the writing of papers, so on her blog she asked for recommendations. She sought rec's for someone before 1500 and one after. I mentioned Contarini and said she should ask you, but I don't know how she could contact you in order to ask any questions. This only came up during the last couple of weeks.
Two: Tom started a blog for the first time in his life and yes, I think you'd like it a lot.
